THE BASIC MODEL
An organisation is more than one assistant.
Real organisations contain different responsibilities, information boundaries and decision-making authorities. Digital Cross applies the same principle to AI.
Instead of giving one general-purpose AI unrestricted access to everything, Digital Cross separates capabilities into specialised roles. Each role has a defined purpose, access to the information it needs and clear limits on what it can do.

An agent receives information from approved documents, systems, feeds or requests and retrieves the relevant organisational context.
2. Analyse & Recommend
The agent connects information, identifies changes, compares evidence and prepares a recommendation or response while preserving provenance.
3. Human Decision & Action
Where an action is sensitive or consequential, a person remains responsible for approving what happens next.

Preserves institutional memory, retrieves records and connects knowledge across time.

Supports situational awareness, operational reporting and coordination.

Works with supplies, transport, procurement, stock and movement information.
Communications
Supports approved information preparation and stakeholder communications.
KNOWLEDGE & PROVENANCE
The AI is not the source of truth.
Authoritative organisational records remain separate from AI interpretation.
Agents can retrieve, compare, summarise and connect information, but the original documents, databases and organisational systems remain authoritative.
Where possible, Digital Cross agents should identify the source material behind their conclusions so people can inspect the underlying record.

Digital Cross is designed to preserve the distinction between what an organisation recorded, what an AI inferred and what a person ultimately decided.
TRUST BOUNDARIES
Access is defined by role.
An agent should not automatically have access to every document, database, mailbox or operational system simply because it belongs to the same organisation.
Minimum necessary access
Each role receives only the information and tools required for its function.
Controlled interfaces
Agents communicate with systems and other roles through defined interfaces rather than unrestricted access.
Approval where it matters
Sending messages, spending money, changing records or taking operational action can require explicit human approval.
TECHNICAL ARCHITECTURE
Separate presentation from intelligence.
The current Digital Cross prototype separates the public website from the AI environment.
Public Frontend
The Digital Cross website provides the public interface without directly exposing the agent platform.
Private Agent Backend
Specialised agents operate within a separate backend environment with their own tools, models and permissions.
Controlled Bridge
The frontend communicates with agents through restricted server-to-server interfaces rather than exposing internal agent services directly.
SEE IT WORKING
Archivist is the first working example.
The current Archivist prototype works with a controlled humanitarian document archive and demonstrates retrieval, synthesis and source-aware institutional memory.
